USS Laws (DD-558) was a Fletcher-class destroyer that served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1971. The ship was named after John Laws, who was a sailor in the Continental Navy and a prisoner of war during the American Revolutionary War.
During World War II, USS Laws participated in several major battles, including the battles of Tarawa, Kwajalein, and the Marianas. The ship was also involved in the Korean War, where it served as a shore bombardment vessel and an escort for aircraft carriers.
After the war, USS Laws was used for training and as a test platform for various weapons systems. The ship was decommissioned in 1971 and sold for scrap in 1974.
USS Laws was awarded seven battle stars for its service during World War II and four battle stars for its Korean War service. Several artifacts from the ship are preserved in museums across the United States, including the National Museum of the United States Navy and the Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum.
